History

West Properties, is a partnership founded in January 1997, by principals Arjay West and Serge Desjardins. The company was formed with the goal of serving upper-end custom homeowners and buyers with refined taste and vision, taking on complicated and detailed projects in the Northern Virginia and Suburban Maryland.

Serge Desjardins moved to Northern Virginia in 1984 and went to work with West Homes in 1985. He spent the next twelve years working his way from trim carpenter to lead trim carpenter to construction manager. He is widely considered to be one of the best trim carpenters and cabinet makers in the area, and is one of the major reasons that West Homes garnered the reputation for stunning finishes and fastidious attention to detail. His work led to numerous Finest for Family Living first place awards for West Homes during his tenure.

Arjay West has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Math from Vanderbilt University. He has spent his entire life in and around the residential construction and development industry. His father, Monte L. West, was the founder and President of West Homes Inc and later West Properties, L.C. Monte encouraged Arjay’s involvement in the business, and employed him in the summers as a carpenter. Arjay went to work for West Homes full-time after his graduation, first as a construction management trainee, then as a construction manager in 1991.

Serge and Arjay left West Properties to form West & Associates when Monte decided to retire in 1996. They both remain close to Monte and are proud of their involvement and in the successes of the firm. Monte sits on the Board of Directors of West & Associates, and is very active in the management of the firm.
